Barka is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual to serve as an Associate, Portfolio Management within its investment team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting and strengthening the fund’s portfolio management function.
Position Overview
The Associate, Portfolio Management will be instrumental in helping to design and implement Barka’s post-investment technical assistance facility, working in close collaboration with portfolio companies across the region. This position encompasses strategic support delivery, performance monitoring, and value creation initiatives to help portfolio companies optimize their growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Management
- Monitor and evaluate the financial and operational performance of portfolio companies
- Develop and implement value creation strategies for each investment
- Participate in regular portfolio reviews and risk assessments
- Collaborate with the investment team on deal sourcing, due diligence, and exit strategies
- Conduct thorough research on market trends and economic indicators to identify potential investment opportunities
- Collaborate with investees to complete Conditions Precedent and Conditions Subsequent to disbursements
- Conduct periodic valuation of portfolio assets using financial models (DCF, multiples, etc.) to ensure accurate reporting and decision-making
- Technical Assistance Facility Management
- Support the Director in designing and developing post investment technical assistance and services tailored to investees
- Collaborate with investees to draft technical assistance proposals for approval
- Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day execution of post technical assistance
- Monitor and report on the outcomes of post-investment TA activities
- Help identify potential technical assistance providers and manage relationships with them
- Utilize financial modeling and analysis tools to support decision-making and enhance portfolio management practices.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for internal stakeholders, summarizing portfolio performance and strategic recommendations.
- Stakeholder Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for portfolio company management teams
- Assist in cultivating relationships with co-investors, advisors, and industry experts
- Cultivate relationships with co-investors, advisors, and industry experts
- Represent the fund at relevant industry events and forums
- Team Leadership:
- Manage and mentor the portfolio management team
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment of fund objectives
- Contribute to the fund’s overall strategy and decision-making processes
Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s degree and/or relevant certifications, CFA is a plus
- Demonstrated experience in portfolio management
- 2+ years of experience in private equity, venture capital, or impact investing
- High work ethic and a sense of urgency
- Excellent leadership, negotiation and project management skills.
- Strong background in financial analysis and business strategy
- Demonstrated experience in providing hands-on support to growing companies
- Excellent project management and interpersonal skills
- Passion for driving both financial returns and positive climate impact
- Bilingual – English and French is an advantage
