The Capital Investment Program is an early-stage impact investment solution, focused exclusively on climate-focused companies across Africa.
We invest in startups that have completed our investment-readiness program.
Startups have limited access to capital in Africa and in most developing countries. Access to finance exists for mostly larger businesses (from private equity firms and commercial banks) and for micro enterprises (from microfinance providers). Barka provides capital in the range of $20,000 to $250,000 and addresses a market largely underserved by impact investors in Africa.
Our capital is linked to founders completing our investment readiness program to address the financial and managerial needs of startups. It also allows founders to get to know us before entering into a long-term relationship.
We look for opportunities that have not received as much attention that they deserve and where significant impact can be achieved with limited initial capital.
We invest in sub-Saharan Africa. However, our current priority is in transformative businesses in the Sahel region of Africa (extremely affected by climate change).
We generate attractive risk-adjusted returns by investing in startups that have completed our investment-readiness program.
We provide our investors with a unique information advantage in the next generation of leading ventures and no-fee co-investment opportunities.
